PANDORA Awards 2018
Welcome to the inaugural PANDORA Awards sponsored by theartofpandora.com. We hope you enjoyed the canapés and bubbly as you arrived and have a good time for the rest of the evening!
It has been a special year for PANDORA and while there was not much of what we might refer to as ‘Classic Pandora’, many of the release drops have been bold, innovative and filled with beautiful designs. While I would definitely like to see a return of two-tone designs, classic designs and new 14k gold charms, I feel that 2018 was a big improvement on some of the tacky charms released in 2017.
The PANDORA Awards provide an opportunity to look back and acclaim some of the beautiful pieces over the year. Although I like all the items I reviewed on the artofpandora.com, those that have won awards have surpassed expectations!
Of course my opinion is subjective and I would love to read your views on your favourites items from 2018. Share your ideas in the comments below and we can have a mini after party together!
2018 Best New Range
Winner: PANDORA Shine
Runner Up: PANDORA Reflexions
The release of PANDORA Shine in 2018 was a big surprise! Although many 14k Gold collectors were irked at the concept of a cheaper, plated product, I appreciate the choice of being able to own gold PANDORA at an affordable price. Plus the first release of the new range was gorgeous and the bee theme was perfect for Spring inspired bracelets.
The second new range was the PANDORA Reflexions range. I think this new approach to PANDORA is quite interesting, despite not purchasing a PANDORA Reflexions bracelet yet. I recently purchased some Disney Petite charms and am planning on wearing them inside the Locket Clip on the Reflexions bracelet.
2018 Best Bracelet
Winner: PANDORA Moments Sliding Leather Bracelet
Runner Up: PANDORA Moments Sliding Silver Bracelet
My favourite bracelet from 2018 was the Moments Sliding Leather Bracelet. I especially appreciate its casual and easy to ware style. The Runner Up award goes to the Moments Silver Sliding Bracelet which is charming worn dressed up or down.
2018 Biggest Surprise
Winner: PANDORA Bella Bot Charms
Runner Up: PANDORA Cosmo Tommy Charm
This year has been filled with lots of surprises from PANDORA! However, the Biggest Surprise Award goes to the Silver and PANDORA Rose Bella Bot charms because they were the leaders of both the PANDORA Friends group and the idea that we could have quirky characters on our bracelets and still be a grown up. Excitingly, the PANDORA 2019 Valentine’s Day Collection will include Rob Bot, Bella’s cute boyfriend!
My Runner Up award goes to the fun PANDORA Cosmo Tommy charm. Another new character for the PANDORA Friends range, Cosmo Tommy is a sweet charm which looks awesome on bracelets and necklaces.
2018 Best Disney Charm
Winner: Disney Mickey & Minnie Vintage Car Charm
Runner Up: Disney Figaro Portrait Charm
This has been a wonderful year for the PANDORA Disney range and I must admit my Disney collection has grown quite a bit! PANDORA has helped rekindle my love for Disney films and inspired my first trip to Walt Disney World. Often I re-watch Disney films as part of my research for my PANDORA Disney reviews. After watching Disney’s Bambi I was inspired to write a review with four bracelet styles based on the four seasons in the film.
The award for Best Disney Charm goes to the Mickey & Minnie Vintage Car charm. It is a super cute charm which is reminiscent of the original Walt Disney films. Plus with Minnie snuggling next to Mickey in the passenger seat it has a lovely romantic sentiment too.
In Runner Up is the adorable Figaro Portrait Charm. Despite being a mad cat lady this is my first PANDORA cat charm as none of the other options have ever appealed to me. In fact some look like rabbits! For me the Figaro Portrait Charm this is the best cat charm PANDORA have ever produced.
2018 Best Murano
Winner: PANDORA Rose Iridescent White Murano
Runner Up: PANDORA Enchanted Garden Murano
I absolutely love PANDORA Murano charms which often have incredible craftsmanship and are ideal for adding a dash of colour to a bracelet. The Best Murano Award for 2018 goes to the gorgeous PANDORA Rose Iridescent White Glass Murano. This delightful glass charm was also PANDORAs first use of a decorated core and it is absolute perfection!
The Enchanted Garden Murano charm receives the Runner Up prize. Its miniature garden scene is beautiful and filled with detail. Plus the mix of colours used in the charm make it very versatile.
2018 Best Spring Charm
Winner: PANDORA Enchanted Teapot Charm
Runner Up: PANDORA Promise of Spring Charm
The Spring Collection is often the most eagerly anticipated collection of the year and normally my personal favourite. As a tea addict the splendid PANDORA Enchanted Teapot charm was a must have and wins the 2018 Best Spring Charm award.
Another gorgeous charm from the Spring Collection is the pretty Promise of Spring charm which takes the Runner Up prize. The words ‘love’ and ‘life’ are set into this beautifully design heart charm complete with spring flowers and a delicate dragonfly.
2018 Best Summer Charm
Winner: Multi-colour Mosaic Charm
1st Runner Up: Ferris Wheel
This years Summer Collection was filled with festivals fun and boho chic inspiration. Despite not liking everything in the collection there were some lovely charms which have found a role in my collection. Especially the delightful Multi-coloured Mosaic charm which wins the award in this category.
The Runner Up prize for 2018 Best Summer Charm goes to the colourful Ferris Wheel charm. Again it is another interesting and original design from PANDORA which is ideal for Summer stylings and looks great paired with Disney charms too.
2018 Best Autumn Charm
Winner: PANDORA Keys of Love Pendant Charm
Runner Up: PANDORA Free as a Bird Pendant Charm
Part of this years Autumn collection was themed Regal Collection and included a romantic mix of locks and keys imagery. PANDORA also produced some beautiful store decorations in keeping with this theme including stylist notebooks embossed with an attractive key motif.
I was really impressed by the pretty Keys of Love Pendant Charm which wins the 2018 Best Autumn Charm award. As the charm dangles, the four keys hang in line to spell the word ‘love’.
The wonderful Free as a Bird Pendant Charm is a close Runner Up. I particularly love how the cage can be opened to free the little bird inside.
2018 Best Winter Charm
Winner: PANDORA Cosmo Tommy Charm
Runner Up: PANDORA Bobby Bot Charm
The new PANDORA Friend charms were my highlight from the 2018 Winter Collection as I don’t collect Christmas charms. Hence the fun Cosmo Tommy charm wins the 2018 Best Winter Charm award. He is a splendid addition to the PANDORA Friends range and I am looking forward to seeing what new friends we will have in 2019.
If only Bobby Bot was a cat he would be perrrrrfect! But this little dog bot is incredibly cute with his little flapping ears and fully deserves the Runner Up spot. The Bobby Bot Charm review will be coming soon so watch this space!
2018 Best Classic PANDORA
Winner: PANDORA Mary Poppins Bag Charm
Runner Up: PANDORA Spring Bird House Charm
What is Classic PANDORA? Maybe it depends when you started collecting or what first drew you to PANDORA. As it is a personal definition, I hold to my own view of ‘Classic PANDORA’ when it comes to the presentation of this award: Charms which stand the test of time and are not influenced by the lastest fashions or trends. Timeless themes coupled with fine detailing using techniques such as oxidisation, two-tone highlights or precious gem stones.
In my opinion the fantastic Disney Mary Poppins’ Bag was the best example of this in 2018 and receives the Best Classic PANDORA Award. This luscious carpet bag charm is another example of a classic design with just the right amount of oxidisation to enhances the charms detail. A close Runner Up is the charming Spring Bird House which is reminiscent of older PANDORA styles.
2018 Best Disney Parks Charm
Winner: Disney Parks Topiary Mickey Charm
Runner Up: Disney Parks World of Disney Charm
PANDORA’s relationship with Disney continues to grow. In fact when I visited Magic Kingdom a few months ago I was delighted to see that the Happily Every After firework show was sponsored by PANDORA. The PANDORA Disney Parks charms are unique in that they are only available either within the Disney Park or online at ShopDisney.com.
This years Best Disney Parks award goes to the gorgeous Topiary Mickey Charm which I bought as a souvenir from my trip to the Epcot Park at Florida. Grassy green enamel highlights the flowers and leaves on this cute charm which is specifically designed for the Epcot Garden Festival. Taking the Runner Up prize is the PANDORA Disney Parks World of Disney charm. Each of the Disney Parks is represented with a black dot on the blue globe and this charm illustrates my goal to visit each Park!
2018 Best Safety Chain
Winner: PANDORA Disney Climbing Mickey Safety Chain
Runner Up: PANDORA Personal Galaxy Safety Chain
I have to admit that Safety chains are not something that I normally ware! Shock horror! Although I do like to use them from time to time and often use them as a decorative element. The PANDORA Disney Climbing Mickey Safety Chain caught my eye with the sweet Mickey figure climbing up the chain. This fun Safety Chain deserves the Best Safety Chain award for 2018.
In the Runner Up spot is the pretty Personal Galaxy Safety Chain. I have especially enjoyed styling this heavenly beauty with Cosmo Tommy. They look perfect together!
2018 Best Pendant
Winner: PANDORA Rose Family Roots Pendant
Runner Up: PANDORA Tree of Love Pendant
I love PANDORA Pendants for their versatility and the ability to wear them on either a necklace or a bracelet. The 2018 Best Pendant award goes to stunning PANDORA Rose Family Roots Pendant charm. The finely crafted filigree tree is a wonderful illustration to the most important story. Our family.
A similar theme is found in our Runner Up, the sweet Tree of Love Pendant. Each of the trees leaves are formed out of tiny love hearts in pink and red enamel.
2018 Best Spacer
Winner: PANDORA Rose Two Hearts Spacer
Runner Up: Disney Seven Dwarves All Around Spacer
Spacers are maybe the forgotten gems in the ever expanding universe of PANDORA, but they serve a valuable purpose and warrant a place in our collections and on our bracelets.
This years winner of the Best Spacer award is the delightful PANDORA Rose Two Hearts Spacer charm. Despite only being released in the 2018 Valentine’s Day collection, this gorgeous spacer has already been retired. Be sure to look out for opportunities to buy it in the sale before it is gone for good.
In Runner Up position is the super cute Disney Seven Dwarves All Around Spacer. It is actually quite a wide spacer and almost the width of a standard charm. Look out for the upcoming review soon.
2018 Most Collectable
Winner: Mickey’s 90th Anniversary Pendant
Runner Up: PANDORA 2018 Club Charm
What is more collectible that the Mouse that started it all? Disney has spent the year building up to the 90th anniversary of this special mouse. PANDORA joined in the celebrations with the splendid Limited Edition Mickey’s 90th Anniversary Pendant, which wins the Most Collectable award for 2018.
The PANDORA 2018 Club Charm receives the Runner Up prize for this award. I only have two of the PANDORA Club charms but many fans have collectected them all.
