Throughout the year PANDORA have released a selection of creative new themes and charms. One of the fun new concepts is PANDORA Friends, a collection of loveable characters with big hearts. The recent Winter 2018 Collection featured three new additions to join the group; PANDORA Shine Bella Bot (767141EN23), Bobby Bot Dog (797551EN12) and Cosmo Tommy (797561CZ). Both Bobby Bot and Cosmo Tommy were two of my favourite charms from the Winter Collection and they have found a forever home with me!

Dora Explores: PANDORA Cosmo Tommy Charm

When I first saw images of the Cosmo Tommy Charm (797561CZ) I thought he was made entirely from silver but the visor on his space helmet is made from a large clear cubic zirconia stone. Its slightly beveled shape creates a wonderful mirrored illusion and you expect to see the surface of Mars reflected in the stone!

Overall the Cosmo Tommy Charm is bright and shiny like the Bruno The Unicorn (797609) charm. The oxidisation effect has been used sparely just to highlight the tread on Cosmo Tommy’s space boots.

As the Cosmo Tommy Charm is so polished the hallmarks are quite distinct on either side of the helmet. One side is engraved with ‘PANDORA’ and the other with ‘J2 S925 ALE’. Recently PANDORA have introduced factory marks on select products. The factory mark is a way for PANDORA internally to keep track of which crafting facility has produced which jewellery item. However the factory marks are not part of the official PANDORA hallmark. On the Cosmo Tommy Charm the ‘J2’ is the factory mark and and ‘S925 ALE’ is the hallmark.

From the back, the Cosmo Tommy Charm shows very little detail but he still looks incredibly cute with his sweet posture.

Like the Bella Bot (797141EN160), Bobby Bot Dog (797551EN12) other the PANDORA Friends, the Cosmo Tommy Charm features a love heart on his chest. As a symbol of their big hearted personalities, each of the PANDORA Friends charms includes this detail. Although the heart is not always on the same place as Bruno The Unicorn (797609) has hearts on his hooves. Meanwhile Theodore Bear (767236) holds a huge heart with the words ‘hug me’.

Style 1: Starman

My first styling with the Cosmo Tommy Charm is inspired by the legend David Bowie. Besides the fantastic ‘Starman’ many of Bowies songs have a space theme. In fact it is hard to think about David Bowie and not envisage him dressed as his glam alter ego Ziggy Stardust.

This space story is set upon the PANDORA Signature Pavé Clasp Bracelet (590723CZ) with its sparkling star like barrel clasp. Floating in the middle of the design Cosmo Tommy steps silently between the two Galaxy (791388CZ) charms. Deep space is represented with sparkling the Starry Night Sky (791662CZ) and the discontinued Fascinating Adventurescent Stardust (791628) Murano charms. The burning cosmos twinkles and glimmer all around the little Starman, with deep blue enamel stars on the two tone Night Sky (791371CZ) charm and a glowing pearlescent moon on the Celestial Mosaic (796400MMB) charm. Looking very small, Planet Earth is visible on the PANDORA 2018 Club (796602D) charm.

Style 2: Wonder

When I first saw the Cosmo Tommy charm it really reminded me of the lead character Auggie in the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. In the story Auggie has a rare disease Treacher Collins Syndrome, which severely effects the development of his facial features. To cope with the emotional difficulty of being stared at by other children, Auggie hides his disfigured face in a space helmet. Yet as the novel progresses Auggie gains friends and confidence, eventually loosing the need to hide. This thought provoking book is an excellent read which touches on subjects of bullying, acceptance and kindness.

The Wonder themed styling features Auggie as Cosmo Tommy in the centre of the PANDORA Mesh Bracelet (596543). Auggie’s first friend Summer is represented by the lovely Bella Bot (797141EN160) and his pet dog Daisy is illustrated with the Bobby Bot Dog (797551EN12) charm. A touch of colour is provided by the Celestial Mosaic (796400MMB) and Silvery Glitter Ball (796327EN144) charms, which complete the design.

Style 3: Man on the Moon

One of my favourite songs, The Man on the Moon, is the inspiration behind my final styling with the Cosmo Tommy charm. This simple design is set on the PANDORA Open Bangle (596477) with two Galaxy (791388CZ) charms surrounding the astronaut Cosmo Tommy. Creating a celestial orb, the PANDORA Personal Galaxy Safety Chain (797512CZ) adds an intriguing finish to the design.
